Airport Problems

So, last week Jared, me, and my parents ventured over to California to visit family. The plane delay on the way there should have been our first clue of things to come! We had a nice visit with the family and headed back to Sacramento to catch our flight home yesterday. We get to the airport only to find out our flight has been cancelled!!! By the time we get up to the front in line we are informed that Alaska Airlines MIGHT be able to get us home on Christmas day, but no guarantees. Crap. We had just returned our rental car so that was gone and we were told basically, "good luck finding a car". We all had people in Boise trying to track down a rental car for us from every agency. We were told Hertz had one car left! We hopped on the shuttle and raced to the counter. We got THE last car that is able to be driven out of state! We loaded up our luggage and headed out only to find out we had to have chains to cross the Sierra Nevada passes! By the time we got chains and made it out of Sacramento it had been 2 hours already. We got up to the pass and chains were now required and everyone was on the side of the road putting them on. Jared was in disbelief that he had to use chains after all the crappy weather driving in Alaska. Going over the pass alone took about 3 hours! We made it to Reno and stopped for a bite to eat. We got to the Oregon border and the roads were worse than in the sierras. We were behind a semi that at one point started going sideways into the rail and we zipped around him. Hope he is okay! Sorry dude we needed to get out of there! All in all we finally made it home around 8 this morning. What is usually an 8 hour trip turned into a 13. My tailbone is paying for it today, but we are thankful to be home and safe. Now, if only I had more time to finish up my Christmas shopping. I better get my butt to the mall!
